10 must have iPhone Apps!
The iPhone app store has over 85,000 apps available, created by over 125,000 developers. There have been over 2 billion downloads to date! But this begs the question, what do I download? Here are 10 of my favorite iPhone apps!
Net Work Toe
There are literally hundreds of Tic Tac Toe apps out there… the problem? Most either cost money or lack the ability to play 2 players or just the computer. Net Work Toe, is great because you can play multi-player, against the computer, or against someone else on your network! And the best thing? ITS FREE!
Photoshop Mobile
I wrote a post about the Photoshop Mobile App last week, and I am bringing it up again because of how much I truly enjoy this app! Photo editing apps are another genre of apps that has hundreds of different apps. This was one area that I was particularly interested in, after trying many different versions, including the pay apps, and free the Photoshop Mobile is by far the best! Best part? Besides the effects, filters, and the ability to upload to photoshop.com, or the ability to geo-tag your photos? IT’S FREE!
Showtimes
The Showtimes App is one of those awesome apps to just have on hand, because you never know when you will need it! Let’s say you’re sitting at home, or out with your friends, and you decide “lets go see a movie!” well then that begs the question, “what’s playing? and where?”. Then comes Showtimes to save the day! This nifty little app will use your current location and display all theaters in your area, along with movie listings, and times! THEN, oh it’s not done yet! You can also read reviews, and watch previews! What’s even better? It too is FREE!
Remote
Again the remote falls into a category that is FLOODED with hundreds of apps. I played with quite a few and tried the pay versions, as well as free versions, and after trying quite a few out, I came back to the first one I tried. The Remote, simply put it does exactly that! The problem with many other remotes is that they require you to download extra software in order to control anything. Remote is great because iTunes sets it up as a device and from there you have access to your entire iTunes library! Make playlists, set up Genius playlists, flip through album artwork, its iTunes extended into your phone! Remote is also completely FREE!
Doodle Jump
I can honestly say this is the best .99 cents I have ever spent! Doodle jump is just an all around fun addicting game, and for so cheap its well worth it! No joke, ENDLESS hours of entertainment. It’s one of those great time wasters for when you’re on the bus, waiting to meet some friends, on a plane, ( in the bathroom, well all know you’re looking for something to keep you occupied ) you can also share your scores on twitter and facebook!
Pandora
This is an app I can’t live without! Pandora has become my music central. If you’re not familiar with the site www.pandora.com it is free internet radio, that customizes to your likes. You can thumbs up or thumbs down songs and it will adjust its playlist according to that! The Pandora App is a fantastic extension of the site, you sign in to your account from the site and BLAMO you’ve got music streaming to you where ever you are! Pandora will introduce you to new artists, and bring back artists and songs you haven’t heard in ages!
Tweetie
Tweetie is by far hands down THE BEST TWITTER APP out there! This app has everything! Adjusting screen to fit horizontal or vertical keyboard. Photo sharing, taking, and geo-taging capabilities. Refresh with the flick of a finger, trending topic viewer, Hash tag maker, @replies, and MORE! If you are on twitter you will want this app, if you have the original Tweetie I advise you to upgrade, the newest version is FAR improved from the last. This app is fast, slick, and all around AWESOME! A++ from me! This app is $2.99 and worth EVERY PENNY!
An awesome feature as well is the nearby feature, where you can see tweets in real time in your area!
Sticking with the social network apps, the Facebook app is FANTASTIC! The updated version brings Facebook right into your hands! With every feature you have on the site in this app, there isn’t a reason to even sign in on the computer! The 1st Facebook App was lacking, lots of errors and limited functionality were a few issues; but the new version comes with new features, improved functionality, and no more errors! You can start a chat on your phone and pick right up where you were on your computer. You can tag photos, update profile photo, everything you can think of and more! This is another FREE APP!
VLC Remote
This is a remote for the program VLC, which is the best video playing client out there. Don’t waste your time downloading codecs, or updating software, just download VLC and right out of the box you can watch virtually any video in any format! The program is free and well worth trying out! The Remote is fantastic all you need to do is have VLC running on your computer, the remote will find it and allow you to pic videos from your hard drive, fullscreen, start, stop, fast forward, rewind, mute, turn down, turn up, and even more! Subtitle control lets you turn it on or off in multiple languages. Very nifty good to have app. There are two versions of the app the Free version and the $2.99 version. Spending $2.99 on this app is well worth it. the free version limits what you can do, still works like a charm, but just not as awesome as the full version.
AIM
The classic in Instant Messenger is on the iPhone. AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) is a direct extension to the desktop program we all know and love. Buddy lists, quick and responsive. There are lots of programs out there that handle different IM programs, but I tend to just use my AIM for my friends and people I talk to on the go, so this suits my needs. And again… this app is completely FREE!
