FEATURE: Taylor Curry
Taylor Curry is a Photographer from the UK. While he shoots great pictures with SLR’s it’s when he get behind a Polaroid that his Skills come into play; He has a knack for finding the perfect composition for the photos, add in the awesomeness of the Polaroid and you’ve got the makings for FANTASTIC photographs, his eye never lets him down that’s for sure. I found Taylor on DeviantArt about a week ago while looking for some sweet Polaroid pictures, when I found his gallery I looked through every page, and this kid, while young, has a lot of talent and his photos are proof.
What inspires you?
Love for Polaroid – Like so many others Photographers I too am inspired by Polaroid. I took up Photography three years ago when I bought a Polaroid Minute Maker II. It was from then my world changed. Everything I had learnt from using SLRs turned upside-down. With no viewfinder of any type, I was forced to focus subjects not by eye, but by distance in feet. i.e. How far do you think you are from me? Eight feet? Okay. Then turn the focus wheel, click and pull. Wait ninety seconds or so with the Polaroid beneath my arm, then peal back the Polaroid. It is in those seconds that I feel a since of euphoria – fades, then I repeat.
What tools do you use to do your work?
The past two years I have been working with a simple Polaroid Minute Maker II, however, my Polaroid 600 SE and Polaroid SX-70 are very much a part of my work. Lately I have been experimenting with Medium format. I’m currently using a Yashica TLR and a Bronchia Sq-Ai. All of these cameras are a must have to any Photographers collection.
Any other places people can see your work or buy it?
I am currently working a website, however it is not yet completed. I plan to have several pieces on sale at the Savannah College of Art and Design annual student body art sales located at the Campus on 1600 Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta. This event is scheduled to be held in late October early November. I will have various pieces for sale, scaling in size from 14×14 Black and white prints to 20×24 Digital Polaroid enlargements. Many of these pieces can be found on my Deviantart.
